MYO is different from so many other youth orchestra's in the fact that parents and other family members are encouraged to participate along with their student. This allows family members to empathize with the student and encourages the students to stay involved in the program.
Studies show that programs that create opportunities for mentoring, role modeling, family engagement and continuous support increase the probability for at-risk students to complete high school and to move on to college.
As a result, the high school students who participate and stay engaged in MYO have significantly higher graduation rates than their peers, matriculate to college, and are better prepared to find a successful career path.
